{"id":1470,"date":"2026-06-15T16:41:18","date_gmt":"2026-06-15T16:41:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/crosscountrymovingteams.com\/?p=1470"},"modified":"2026-06-15T16:41:18","modified_gmt":"2026-06-15T16:41:18","slug":"beagle-breeding-farm-to-shutter-for-good-after-rescue-group-buys-nearly-1500-dogs-following-violent-protests-where-cops-teared-gassed-activists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/crosscountrymovingteams.com\/?p=1470","title":{"rendered":"Beagle breeding farm to shutter for good after rescue group buys nearly 1,500 dogs following violent protests where cops teared gassed activists"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Big Dog Ranch Rescue announced Monday that it has reached an agreement for the permanent closure of Ridglan Farms and the transfer of its 475 remaining beagles starting this week.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/crosscountrymovingteams.com\/?p=1468\">The Gilgo Beach serial killer is reading crime novels and trying to befriend other serial killers in jail, sheriff says<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The rescue group said some of the beagles will go to other rescue groups while others will be sent to its Florida and Alabama campuses where they will be spayed, neutered, and prepared for adoption.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The group\u00a0bought roughly 1,500\u00a0of the farm\u2019s more than 2,000 beagles in April for an undisclosed price.<\/p>\n<p>The transfer of the remaining beagles is expected to last until August, when there will be no more dogs at the farms, according to Big Dog Ranch Rescue.<\/p>\n<p>The organization called on protesters to refrain from further demonstrations as it says Ridglan Farms has committed to permanently closing its dog breeding, sales, research and testing operations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur focus now should be on supporting these dogs as they transition into their new lives,\u201d Lauree Simmons, founder of Big Dog Ranch Rescue, said in a statement.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Spokespersons for Ridglan Farms didn\u2019t immediately respond to phone and email messages seeking comment Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/crosscountrymovingteams.com\/?p=1466\">Knicks superstar Jalen Brunson just led New York to an NBA title\u2014and says his basketball legend dad got him ready for the moment<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The dog breeding and research business is located in Blue Mounds, a small town about 25 miles (about 40 kilometers) southwest of the capital, Madison.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Animal activists have been pushing for years to have dogs at the facility adopted, not sold to other research facilities.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Beagles are the most common breed of dog used for animal testing, primarily because of their smaller size and gentle temperament, according to Big Dog Ranch Rescue.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In April, police used\u00a0tear gas and pepper spray\u00a0to repel a large group of animal welfare activists that\u00a0stormed the farm\u00a0in an attempt to take beagles from the facility.
