The index closed up 1.08% in its last session.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>In Europe,<\/b><span> the Stoxx 600 was down 0.14% in early trading and the U.K.\u2019s FTSE 100 was flat before lunch.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Asia: <\/b><span>South Korea\u2019s KOSPI was up 0.69%. Japan\u2019s Nikkei 225 was up 1.55%. India\u2019s Nifty 50 was up 0.48%. China\u2019s CSI 300 was up 2.39%.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Brent crude<\/b><span> was down to $79 per barrel this morning.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Bitcoin<\/b><span> was $64.1K.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Thanks, China! Beijing simply stopped buying oil during the war<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span>Why did the price of oil stay below $100 for much of the Iran war, even though the Strait of Hormuz\u2014which normally carries 20% of the world\u2019s oil\u2014was closed? Because China stopped buying oil, according to this chart (below) from Jeffrey Roach of LPL Financial. \u201cChinese crude imports by tanker fell to 6.7 million barrels a day last month, nearly 40% below the 2025 average. Their government-driven investment funds are often bigger than their central banks.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>NUMBER OF THE DAY<\/h3><h2>132<\/h2>\n<p><span>The number of words in new Fed chairman Kevin Warsh\u2019s first rate-setting statement, which was much shorter than Jerome Powell\u2019s last statement, at 341 words. It was the shortest Fed statement in about 20 years, <\/span><span>according to BMO<\/span> (via MarketStack)<span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>UBS\u2019s Paul Donovan is unimpressed: \u201cThe Fed\u2019s statement was somewhat troubling. Warsh seemingly believes that roughly 130 words can summarize an increasingly complex economic outlook in a global economy experiencing the most dramatic change in 250 years.
