Puma designed the kits for Portugal as well as Morocco and Senegal, the two finalists at the most recent African Cup of Nations.<\/p>\n<p>While the three companies are behind most of this year\u2019s kits, some teams are sporting uniforms designed by other apparel makers.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h4>Testing facility features thermal chambers and robot mannequins<\/h4>\n<p>On a recent morning, McCartney spoke from the sports research lab at Nike\u2019s headquarters just outside Portland, Oregon, where experimentation helped the kits come to life.<\/p>\n<p>The indoor facility includes a 200-meter (219-yard) track, a small football pitch and a basketball court, with hundreds of motion-capture cameras placed throughout. Thermal chambers replicate the effects of heat and humidity on apparel donned by people or robot mannequins.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe take motion-capture to see how they\u2019re moving in the kit, how the kits are responding,\u201d McCartney said. \u201cWe also use the thermal chambers that we have to test the kit\u2019s breathability, to test wicking and moisture management.\u201d<\/p>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>For the World Cup kits, Nike engineered a new fabric that it says is more breathable and made from fully recycled materials. The way the jerseys are knit, with mesh stitching in certain areas allowing more air flow, helps \u201cget that thermal regulation that all the players have been asking for,\u201d McCartney said.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/crosscountrymovingteams.com\/?p=2435\">One in three Gen Zers is letting AI do their homebuying homework, but they still trust realtors with the closing process<\/a><\/p>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Despite all the testing, the rollout of the kit was still a bit bumpy.<\/p>\n<p>During matches earlier this year, bulges could be seen in the shoulder seams on jerseys for teams including France and Uruguay,\u00a0the Guardian reported.<\/p>\n<p>When asked by AP, Nike said it was able to identify the issue before the start of the World Cup, and worked with federations \u201cto ensure kits show up as intended.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4>Designs incorporate symbols of national pride<\/h4>\n<p>While a kit\u2019s physical attributes are important for athletes,\u00a0its appearance\u00a0is just as significant for fans who sport the jerseys and want to feel connected to their team.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe take inspiration from lots of different places, from the past, from art, from music, from culture, so anything that gets us connected to the country we really want to harness,\u201d McCartney said.<\/p>\n<p>France\u2019s away kit, for example, is a light green akin to the Statue of Liberty, which France gifted to the U.S. in the late 19th century. The interior tag features the word \u201cLibert\u00e9\u201d inside a silhouette of the monument\u2019s crown.<\/p>\n<p>On the front of the jersey there\u2019s a rooster \u2014 an emblem of the national team and the country itself \u2014 and two stars representing France\u2019s two previous World Cup victories.<\/p>\n<p>France\u2019s home kit features a collar \u2014 as does Uruguay\u2019s. The decision to use collars comes from the federations, Nike said, with France leaning into its history as a fashion capital and Uruguay looking to evoke a more classic football look. In previous decades, many uniforms included collars.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Key national symbols were also considered when designing kits for the U.S. and Canada.
