As the fund\u2019s largest debtor with about $58 billion in outstanding IMF loans, Argentina faces a key repayment period beginning next year, when Milei is expected to seek reelection.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/crosscountrymovingteams.com\/?p=4422\">Helen Toner: the Hugging Face hack was just a matter of time and exposes a huge blind spot in AI policy<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cArgentina is in a much stronger position, and this is the result of the government\u2019s hard work and the perseverance and sacrifice of the Argentine people,\u201d Georgieva said at a news conference alongside\u00a0Economy Minister Luis Caputo.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Georgieva recalled that Argentina\u2019s debt was among the first issues discussed when she took over as IMF managing director in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were debating whether the country would be able to keep up with servicing its debt obligations to everyone. That is not the question we should be asking today,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Georgieva\u2019s visit comes as\u00a0Argentina\u2019s economic outlook\u00a0has improved, with bond prices rising, central bank reserves increasing and inflation falling. Annual inflation has slowed to 33%, down sharply from 210% when Milei took office in late 2023. Last week, Moody\u2019s upgraded Argentina\u2019s sovereign credit rating, months after similar upgrades by S&amp;P and Fitch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we have today is a much healthier picture,\u201d Georgieva said. \u201cMarket confidence has returned.\u201d<\/p>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Georgieva is scheduled to visit Vaca Muerta on Tuesday, one of the world\u2019s largest reserves of unconventional oil and natural gas.
