Peter Thiel warns AI is a bigger threat to technical roles than to creative thinkers<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe attitude that you bring to the office\u2014and to your employees, your peers, and the people you serve alongside every day\u2014is what ultimately will determine a lot of your success,\u201d Eschenbach said on McKinsey\u2019s <em>Inside the Strategy Room<\/em> podcast in an episode released in August 2025.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cI often say your altitude in life is completely determined by your attitude in life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And he\u2019s speaking from experience: \u201cOnce I transitioned from a life of success for myself to a life of significance for others, everything changed. I think that is a key component to leading in this new world that we\u2019re living in today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Eschenbach worked at companies like Dell and Sequoia Capital before joining Workday\u2019s C-suite in late 2022, his early career journey was far from traditional; he began his career as a competitive wrestler, something he\u2019s said has shaped his business perspectives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy serving others, somehow success will follow you\u2014probably even more success than if you focused on success itself,\u201d he added to McKinsey.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>While the 59-year-old admitted it may feel like a strange shift at first, people should come to embrace that the true marker of achievement isn\u2019t a high-ranking title or six-figure salary, but the attitude and approach a leader brings into the room.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Eschenbach stepped down as CEO in February 2026, handing the reins back to cofounder\u00a0Aneel Bhusri, who had previously led the company.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2>The power of the right attitude<\/h2>\n<p>Leaders across the business sphere are in agreement with Eschenbach: attitude is a big deal, especially for young people.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In fact, Amazon\u2019s CEO Andy Jassy echoed that getting an MBA or having the biggest LinkedIn network might not help you in your career nearly as much as having a positive disposition.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/crosscountrymovingteams.com\/?p=439\">Sheinbaum accuses U.S. of interfering in Mexico\u2019s politics<\/a><\/p>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cAn embarrassing amount of how well you do, particularly in your twenties, has to do with attitude,\u201d Jassy told LinkedIn CEO Ryan Roslansky in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, Brooks Running CEO Dan Sheridan added in an interview with <em>Fortune<\/em>\u2019s <em>Leadership Next<\/em> podcast that maintaining the right mindset\u2014even when times are tough\u2014is what sets good leaders apart from great ones.<\/p>\n<div><!--$?--><!--\/$--><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI just think as leaders, you have to be optimistic. You have to have a winning attitude. Otherwise, no one\u2019s going to follow you,\u201d Sheridan said in 2025. \u201cYour customers aren\u2019t going to follow you. Your employees aren\u2019t going to follow you, and your owners are probably going to scratch their head and say, what\u2019s going on here?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For Eschenbach, it\u2019s something that he saw everyday in his role leading the workforce tech company\u2014the best leaders are the ones that also keep the right attitude even as they climb the ladder.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cHaving interacted with a lot of senior leaders in the world, I think the ones who are the most humble and grounded, and remember where they came from, who remain highly authentic and vulnerable, are the type of people that others will follow,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<h2>Pair an attitude adjustment with these activities<\/h2>\n<p>Of course, positivity alone isn\u2019t enough to land a job or promotion. Eschenbach stresses that young people should also build strong networks that last a lifetime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always say the power of your network is only as strong as the number of nodes that are in it,\u201d he told McKinsey\u2019s Eric Kutcher. \u201cFind those nodes and use them to help you expand your network, because this is one of the gifts that will keep on giving in your career.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And when it comes to AI, he urges young people to embrace, not fear, the shift.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cLean into technology, don\u2019t be afraid of it. Figure out how you peacefully coexist with it.
