The office said he would miss a major Kentucky political event and upcoming Senate votes. His letter Tuesday marked a significant escalation.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cI am calling on you to directly and verbally address the people of Kentucky and provide proof of your capacity to serve, or resign,\u201d Beshear wrote to McConnell.<\/p>\n<p>Beshear also sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader John Thune, urging him to investigate McConnell\u2019s condition if the senator does not demonstrate that he is capable of continuing to serve.<\/p>\n<p>McConnell and Thune\u2019s offices did not provide comment on the letter.<\/p>\n<p>McConnell, who led Senate Republicans for nearly two decades, has long guarded his personal life.
